18 Wheeler
When this baby hit the arcades
on the Naomi system i was the first spending some coins on that great game. Fantastic action
truck-racer featuring 4 trucks and drivers with different abilities. Not only
will u race against the time to bring the chosen truckload to its destination,
also u will be challenged with bonus games to get a better horn (the better and
louder ur horn, the more cars in front of u will change lanes to let u pass) or
other power-up features for ur truck.
One of the best ideas is the Slipstream feature. If u drive behind another truck
long enough ull get a speed-boost for slipstreaming as long as ure behind that
truck. As u race against another trucker to get ur payload to its destination
ull find that feature lifesaving in higher levels.
18 Wheeler also features hidden shortcuts, that can help u if u have the right
truck/driver. If u got the wrong one itll critically slow u down.
Sega decided to bring 18 Wheeler to the home consoles (PS2, GC and DC), but... erm... lets forget about that, as those are about the worst conversions i ever saw. Im shivering just thinking of it.
What i never understood
regarding the Arcade version is... why does this game take so long loading new
levels or even the next screen? Excuse me Mr. Sega Developer... this is NAOMI
hardware!!! Loading times even for a map screen???
Aside from that... as i said: One of the best action racers out there.
