Arcades   Is It Worth It?

Wonderful remake of the old Gauntlet series. This time featuring full 3-D grafix and digi-sound. I never liked the old Gauntlets but "Legends" roxx.

Re-meet the good old monster-generators, hordes of enemies and riddles, while the developers added upgradeable characters, shops to buy special weapons, multiple magic and fluent camera zooms. Though this all sounds like confusing gameplay its quite the opposite.

Magic comes in 3 different strengths building up through time. Every character has a close combat and an arrow attack and is defined by values like Speed, Strength and Magic (all upgradeable). Also u find "options" and special items like limited invulnerability, invisibility, x-ray sight or fireshields in chests and barrels. Also the good old key-collecting is featured. Without them u wont get far.

The game features about 30 levels and 4 endbosses (and 1 final endboss). Also u find secret levels, areas and the famous runestones (very well hidden).
U can also write down a 3-digit code to save ur character, so u dont need to restart at level 1 in front of the endboss. Very nice idea.

Normally the game uses a 49-way joystick and med-res monitor, but is also playable by normal means (8-way stick and standard res) by altering the dip-switch settings. Only thing u need is a second power supply for the ventilators (2 pieces) placed inside the cab. Gauntlet Legends features a "Quantum" harddrive (see picture on top), so be sure u handle the game careful.

Prequel to Gauntlet Dark Legacy.
