Solder side is the side of the board all those little peaky chipflags come out and where all the soldering takes place.
Parts side simply is the side of the board where all the hardware parts are located. Chips, Dip switches, etc...

3 ways to enter a games config menu:

1) Look if theres a tiny button on the parts side of the board. If yes press it...this usually is the Test button, or Reset. Anyway u wont damage the board...
2) If theres no button as mentioned above search for Dip Switches. If there are some on the board one of them will let u enter test menu. Search the net for the Dip Settings! Dont try constellations urself. Could damage the board. Goto links to find some urls.
3) If none of the above are to be seen take a short cable and hold one end to Ground (pin 1,2,27,28,A,B,e or f) and one to Test Switch (pin 15) for a second. This should do the trick.
