DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THIS SHOOTER!
Often i hear that VP1 is a boring lousy shooter. ITS NOT!
First of all grafix are astounding. No Raiden Fighters Title (even Jet) can stand up to its fine resolution and detail. Sound fits perfectly into the setting and for all that dont like Raiden Fighters music itll be pure pleasure.
Its true first 2 or 3 levels are quite easy to manage....but later on its a real hard hitter.
Next thing to think about is release year....VP1 was released one year prior to "Raiden Fighters"...
New Version features different power up-system than original release version, giving u Raiden Fighters-style upgrades that stay till u die. Old Version gives u a time-limited (about 5 seconds) better shot...useless if u ask me...but also a lot harder and a lot more funkilling. So be sure u buy the right one. "New Version" will be shown in title screen under "Viper Phase 1" header.
Imho its a goodie that belongs in everyones collection.
